Cooperatives to open

CHAUTARA: Cooperative shops are all set to open in 51out of the 79 VDCs in Sindhupalchowk district. A meeting of the Cooperative Shops Management and Monitoring Committee decided to open the fair price shops at designated VDCs in the first phase if the VDCs concerned submit proposals to that end. District Agricultural Development Office will provide a subsidy of Rs 50,000 to each institution running the shops. Another Rs 50,000 will be provided once the insfrastructure is ready on the recommendation of the VDC. — RSS


Swine flu awareness

Chitwan: An awareness interaction was organised in Chitwan about swine flu and its hazards on Friday. The programme was organised by Influenza Control Project under the department of health at the Ministry of Health and Population. On the occasion, director of the project Dr Manas Kumar Benerjee, Nepal representative of WHO Dr Nirmal Kandel and UNICEF representative Binaydal Rana highlighted the causes and symptoms of swine flu. Speakers said health workers, communities and journalists should play a role to create awareness on the disease. — RSS


Snakebite kills two

SARLAHI: Snakebite killed two children in Sarlahi district on Thursday night. Kabita Khadka, 9, a resident of Hajriya VDC-6 died while undergoing treatment in Barthawa based primary health centre after being bitten by a snake. While, a two-year-old child of Hariwan-1 who has yet to be identified also died of a snakebite on Thursday, the police said. — HNS


Lightning kills girl

MAHOTTARI: A girl was killed and another injured when struck by a lightning bolt in Manara VDC on Friday. The dead has been identified as Khusada Nadaf, 10, a resident of Manara-9, the police said. Injured Delekha Nadaf, 11, is undergoing treatment at a local health post. — HNS
