MAHOTTARI: Speakers at a programme organised in Bardibas on Friday said the Madhesis and other ethnic people launched an agitation as people’s aspirations expressed through the Jana Andolan II were not fulfilled. Speaking at the programme, member of the civil society Kanak Mani Dixit said the Madhes agitation helped in fulfilling the aspirations. Right activist Sushil Pyakurel called for a peaceful agitation to fulfil people’s aspirations. — HNS
Two shot at
MAHOTTARI: An unidentified group on Friday shot at two persons near Tuteswor Mahadev in Mahottari district. 48-year-old Hari Prasad Chaulagain and 22-year-old Thir Bahadur Moktan were injured after the group opened fire. They were shot while they were returning home from jungle nearby Tuteswor temple. Chaulagain and Moktan are undergoing treatment at the Lalgadh hospital, according to the Mahottari district police office. Following the shooting, locals have halted traffic along the Mahendra Highway in Bardibas. — RSS
MMT man arrested
BARA: Police said Rameshwor Yadav alias Bishal Bidrohi, coordinator of the Madhesi Mukti Tigers (MMT) in Bara district, was arrested from Bara district headquarters Kalaiya-4 on Friday. According to superintendent of police at the Bara district police office, Hemant Pal, arms and ammunition and a mobile phone set were confiscated from the 24-year-old MMT cadre. Bidrohi, who continued to extort money from employees and businessmen, was arrested acting on a tip-off, SP Pal said. — HNS
Three houses looted
SIRAHA: An armed gang of 15 dacoits looted property worth Rs 3.5 lakh from Khoksitole of Janakinagar-4 in Siraha district on Thursday, police said. The armed dacoits looted cash, gold and silver from the houses of Gajendra Paswan, Mujebul Ansari and Mohamad Mustapha by detonating three socket bombs, the Siraha District Police Office said, adding that Dil Bahadur Ansari, who was injured in the dacoits’ attack, has been undergoing treatment in a local health post. — HNS

BIRGUNJ: The government has decided to provide Rs one million as relief assistance to the bereaved family of the joint manager at the Nepal Bank Limited in Adarshanagar branch Manohar Kumar Shrestha who was killed by the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha-Goit cadres. Bridge collapse probe
KATHMANDU: The commission formed by the government to investigate the suspension bridge collapse over the Bheri river located at Dahachaur, Mehalkuna, in Surkhet district started its work from Friday. The office of the commission is located at the Office of the Attorney General in Kathmandu. The commission has requested the public to provide information related to the accident. — RSS
