22 hurt in mishap

POKHARA: Twenty-two persons were injured in a mishap in Kaski district on Friday when a bus (Ga 1 Kha 2136) met with an accident at Rupakot. The bus was heading for Miyan village from Thumki of the district. Police said the condition of four of the injured is critical. DSP Dinesh Regmi said there were 25 persons aboard the bus. — HNS

Dacoits kill one

RAUTAHAT: One person was killed in Rautahat on Thursday night. A 15-member gang of armed dacoits looted a house belonging to Palat Chaudhari at Sakhuwa Dhamaura VDC-3 around 11 pm. Chaudhari, 45, who made an attempt to attack the dacoits was killed when the dacoits fired at him, police said. The dacoits looted property worth Rs 20,000 and the hunt of those involved in the incident is on, SP Laxman Neupane said. — HNS

Death mourned

BARA: The Bara chapter of Local Bodies’ Staffers’ Association on Friday halted work at the Bara District Development Committee as a part of mourning the death of a senior officer at the Birgunj-based Nepal Bank Limited, Mohan Kumar Shrestha. Shrestha was killed at Meena Bazaar in Birgunj on December 24. — HNS

Timber seized

BARA: A tractor loaded with timber, which was being illegally smuggled out to India, was seized from Bara on Friday morning. The Telkuwa Temporary Police Post seized the timber that was being smuggled in the tractor (Na 1 Ta 4706) from Majhariya village development committee-6, the Bara District Police Post said. — HNS

One sent to jail

BARA: Jitendra Mahato Koitee of Chorni-7 of Parsa, who was arrested on the charge of being involved in the killing of secretary of Khatuwa Jabbdi village development committee Bara Ram Babu Sharma, was sent to jail on Thursday. Secretary Sharma, a resident of Bhawani Jeetpur VDC, was shot dead on October 8. — HNS

Two MMT men held

RAUTAHAT: The Armed Police Force (APF) held Rautahat district in-charge of the Madhesi Mukti Tigers (MMT) Bijay Singh Yadav and MMT cadre Shailendra Keshari from the premises of Gaur bazaar-based office of the Rastriya Banijya Bank on Friday. Yadav, of Khairawa VDC of Sarlahi, and Keshari, of Gaur-9, were arrested while they were heading to the bank to exchange money, Armed Police Force superintendent Ram Krishna Lama said. An identity card issued by Lok Awaj weekly was seized from Keshari, Lama said. — HNS

NAWALPARASI: Former village development committee seceretary Nandlal Thapa, a resident of Ruchang VDC 3 in Nawalparasi district, was robbed of Rs 18,000 by an armed gang as he was walking from Hasaura of Shivmandir village development committee in Nawalparasi district on Friday. Thapa, a ginger trader, was robbed as he was returning to Kawasoti. — HNS

2 held for killing cow

NAWALPARASI: Tul Bahadur Tham and Hari Bahadur Tham of Sunwal VDC-9 in Nawalparasi district were arrested on Friday for slaughtering a cow which belonged to their neighbour. Police said the two took the cow to the nearby Tilak forest and slaughtered it there. They were caught by locals and handed over to the police. What charges they might face have not been decided yet, Deputy Superintendent of Police Hari Wagle said. — HNS
