UNMIN’s term
KATHMANDU: The government has sent a formal letter to the United Nations to extend the tenure of UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) by six months. UNMIN had arrived on January 23 to support the peace process in Nepal. Nepal’s mission in New York handed over the letter to the UN Secretary General on Tuesday, said spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Hira Bahadur Thapa. He said the letter sent by the government had specified that the UNMIN’s present role would not be expanded. — RSS
Fake notes seized
BIRGUNJ: Police arrested one person on the charge of possessing fake Indian currency on Tuesday. Gopichandra Prasad Kanu, an owner of a groc-ery shop in Tejarath Tole, Birgunj, was arrested with 25 fake notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denominations. — HNS
Kids killed in mishaps
POKHARA: Prasanta Gurung (7) of Birauta, Pokhara-17, was killed when a motorbike hit him on Wednesday. Irate locals staged a demonstration after the accident. Police had to fire tear gas shells to contain the mob, which obstructed the road and vandalised the transport office. Meanwhile, an eight-year-old lost his life when a bus hit him at Kawasoti in Nawalparasi on Wednesday. Deceased Sachin BK of Bharatpur, Chitwan, died on the spot. — HNS
Blast injures two
MAHOTTARI: Two persons were critically injured in an explosion in Raghunathpur VDC-1 on Tuesday night. Thirty-year-old Shatrudhna Raut Kurmi and his 25-year-old wife Bina Devi Raut of Raghunathpur VDC -1 were hurt in the explosion. — HNS
