Two hurt in mishap
DAMAK: Driver of a truck Harka Bahadur BK and helper were hurt when the truck overturned at Dhardhare Khola on the Mahendra Highway on Sunday, the Damak Area Traffic Police Office said. The mishap occurred when the driver swerved the truck to avoid hitting a cyclist, police said adding that the cyclist escaped unhurt. — HNS
STF arrests nine
SARLAHI: The Special Task Force of the Armed Police Force on Saturday night arrested nine persons in possession of weapons at Hempur VDC, APF Superintendent of Police Narendra Kumar Singh said. One dies in accident
Dipayal: One person died and three were hurt in a road accident in Dipayal, a report said. Shyam Oda, 23, of Silgadhi-10, died and three people were injured when a jeep heading to Silgadhi from Dipayal met with an accident at Thapla of Silgadhi on Saturday, police said, identifying the injured as Narmada Shrestha, Lok Batala and Uddhav Kunjeda. — HNS
1 killed in mishap
ITAHARI: A motorcyclist Ram Kumar Ramtel, resident of Itahari-2, was killed when the motorcycle he was riding on collided with a passenger bus at Itahari-7 on Sunday, police said adding that pillion rider, who has not been identified, was critically injured. In another incident nine persons were hurt when a bus met with an accident at Pakali of Sunsari on Saturday night. The injured are undergoing treatment in Dharan, police said. — HNS

SUNSARI: One Binod Chaudhary was injured when a gang led by Debu Yadav opened fire at him on Sunday evening at Bhamari of Aurabani-5 VDC in Sunasri, police said. Chaudhari has sustained bullet injury in his mouth has been undergoing treatment in Birat Nursing Home, DSP Yadavraj Khanal said. There was chaos in the Panchami fair at Aurabani when the people heard firing, locals said. — HNS
Call to book inspector
PHIDIM: Political leaders and members of civil society on Sunday demanded action against a police inspector, who drove a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, and critically injured one person in Panchthar. Milan Rai, 13, was critically hurt when inspector Anil Poudel recklessly drove a jeep and hit Rai on Saturday. Rai has been undergoing treatment at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences. Meanwhile, CDO Hari Krishna Upadhayaya has expressed commitment to take action against Poudel. — HNS
2 held for shooting
DAMAK: Police on Saturday evening arrested two Bhutanese refugee youths on the charge of their involvement in the shooting at Bhutanese refugee youth Arjun Subba. Former secretary at the refugee camp Subash Acharya and Bir Bahadur Subba were arrested for shooting at Subba on Thursday. Subba was undergoing treatment at the Damak-based Lifeline Hospital. After the arrest, investigation is in progress, said inspector at the Damak area police office, Govinda Raj Kafle. — HNS
Looters arrested
BIRATNAGAR: Police have arrested Buddiman Rajbanshi, 21, of Bhathigach-7 in Morang, and Sanjay Yadav, 18, of Sunsari, for their involvement in lootings. Rajbanshi is a former policeman. Police also seized two pistols from the duo. The duo has admitted to involvement in lootings and dacoity in Biratnagar area under the direction of Bhagwan Yadav. Meanwhile, police recovered four bombs and an axe, left behind by a gang of dacoits, from the bank of the Dyangri river in Jhapa district. — RSS
