Scribes stage demo

KAVRE: Kavre-based journalists staged a demonstration and organised a condolence assembly in Banepa on Sunday to protest against the killing of Bara-based journalist Birendra Shah. A rally organised by the Kavre chapter of the Press Chautari Nepal went to different parts of the city and converged into a condolence assembly at Satdobato Chowk. On the occasion, participants demanded that journalist Shah be declared a martyr and those involved in his killing be brought to book. — HNS

Schools shut

Lamjung: Teachers in Besishar shut schools and staged demonstration on Sunday to protest the murder of their fellow teacher, Govinda Bahadur Majakot, at Shova Mandir Primary School in Sindure Village Development Committee (VDC)-1. Body of Majakot, who had been missing since November 8, was found at Bankata jungle of Sindure VDC-3 on Saturday. Demanding post-mortem report of Majakot’s body at the earliest and immediate action against the murderers, the protesters padlocked the District Public Health Office, District Education Office and the Lamjung Community Hospital. All the services except emergency are closed in the hospital. — HNS
