KATHMANDU: The central and western hilly region of the country may experience rainfall with thunderstorm for two more days as a result of the impact of the westerly winds, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has said. Since the affect of the monsoon winds has come to an end, the affect of the special kind of wind originating from the west would result in rain gradually in the central and eastern region, the Department says. If the present weather continues there is also possibility of hailstorm as in Pokhara in the west, it is stated in the forecasting by the Department. At present, the weather is clear in the Terai and western part of the country. However, there is possibility of rainfall with thunderstorm in Kathmandu valley on Saturday. — RSS

Health post gheraoed

RAJBIRAJ: Dalits of Haripur VDC, demanding to cancel the decision of transferring an assistant health worker from a local sub-health, gheraoed the sub-health post at Haripur-1 on Friday. Assistant health worker Surya Narayan Chaudhari was serving the locals effectively for a long time, however, Chaudhari was transferred to Bhojpur two weeks ago. “We are planning to submit a memorandum to a local body with the demand of not transferring Chaudhari from the sub-health post,” a local Mulhidevi Paswan said. — HNS

Dacoits kill one

RAUTAHAT: A gang of armed dacoits looted properties worth Rs one lakh from a house in Rautahat’s Dharampur VDC-2 on Thursday night. One person died on the spot and another was critically injured when the dacoits opened fire on family members who were retaliating them. The gang comprising 15 dacoits intruded one Banti Lal Yadav’s house and made away with property worth Rs 150,000, police said. Yadav’s 14-year-old Ram Bishwas Yadav died on the spot in retaliation when the latter fired indiscriminately. Another 22-year-old son Suresh was injured in the firing. He was sent to the Birgunj for treatment, said SP Yogeshwor Romkhami. — HNS

Mushroom kills 3

KHAJURA: The number of people dying after having a meal including wild mushroom has reached three, with one more succumbing on Friday. Iswari Pariyar,12, of Kamdi VDC-9, Banke died while undergoing treatment at the Bheri Zonal Hospital. It may be noted that two members of the same family had already died after consuming poisonous mushroom a week ago at Shivarajpur. Of the five members of the family who had taken the meal, two are still undergoing treatment at the Hospital. Of the two, 60-year-old Birbal Pariyar is reported to be in a critical condition. — RSS

Elephant kills woman

BARDIYA: Gauri Tharuni, 35, of Janaknagar in Patabhar VDC-6 of Bardiya district died when a wild elephant from Bardiya National Park attacked her on Friday evening. Gauri was sitting in the front yard of her house when the pachyderm barged in and mowed her down. She died on the spot. The same elephant is reported to have been creating havoc in the surrounding villages for the past six months. — HNS

Three hurt in mishaps

TANAHU: Three persons were hurt in separate road mishaps on Mugling-Kotre section of the Prithvi Highway on Thursday and Friday. Forty-five-year-old Nava Raj Baral was critically injured when his motorbike heading from Dumre to Damauli met with an accident at Kamalabari of Ghansikuwa VDC-4 at 8:00 pm on Thursday, police said. Similarly, 45-year-old Prashant Pun was injured when he was hit by a microbus at Dulegaunda-7 on Friday morning. In another incident, 65-year-old Parbati Poudel was hurt when she was hit by a motorbike at Buldi on Friday afternoon. — HNS

NEA staffer abducted

RAJBIRAJ: Senior meter reader Mahendra Yadav of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Saptari district branch office, was abducted by a gang of unknown persons on Friday. Yadav was abducted as he was returning from Jandaul of Sapatri after taking a meter reading there, said NEA branch office chief Rahsdeyshayam Mahato. He added that the kidnappers told the NEA staff over telephone that Yadav would be released after payment of Rs 3 lakh ransom failing which he would be killed. Yadav is a native of Inaruwa-2 in Sunsari district. — HNS

Murder suspect held

MAHOTTARI: The police nabbed Suresh Yadav, believed to be the main suspect in the murder of the Maoists’ former district secretary Girendra Yadav, alias Suman, from Bihar’s Sursand on Friday. Three persons, including Suresh, are now in police custody. Suresh’s brother Raj Kishor had lodged complaints against 18 persons for the murder. Late Yadav’s wife Mandakala Devi was arrested on the same day in connection with the murder while another person Kari Yadav was held a few days ago. — HNS
