Over 20 hurt in clash

RAJBIRAJ: Around two dozens agitators were hurt on Friday when a police team used force to resume traffic during the bandh called by the Dalit Janajati Party (DJP) at Bisanchowk of Kalyapur in Saptari. Those injured were undergoing treatment at the local primary health post and clinics, DJP central member Sandi Ram said, adding the police arrested six DJP cadres. Bisanchowk was tense after the clash, the police said. — HNS

One found dead

BARA: Baldev Chaudhari, 45, of Inarwasira-8 of Bara, who was swept away by Kathohakhola on Thursday, was found dead in Bashantapurgoth of Inarwasira-7 on Friday, the Bara District Police Office said. — HNS

One goes missing

DHADING: Jayaram Chepang, 25, of Bhunglichowk-8 of Gorkha, has gone missing in the Trishuli river. Chepang went missing as he fell into the river while crossing the bridge linking Jogimara of Dhading with Hiklung of Gorkha on Thursday, locals said, adding that they are conducting a search for Chepang. — HNS

Sandalwood seized

KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday night seized ten tons of red sandalwood from Dhobighat in Lalitpur district. Police said the ten tons of red sandalwood was seized from a truck (Me 1 Kha 577) from Dhobighat, adding that four suspected red sandalwood smugglers were apprehended. — HNS

Speaker’s call

BIRATNAGAR: Speaker Subas Nembang on Friday said the eight parties should go for the CA polls with a common agenda. Speaking to journalists, he said: “It is necessary for the eight parties go for the polls with a common agenda as there will be confusion among people.” He urged all agitating forces to solve their problems through talks. Though the political parties are yet to go to the villages, publicity for the CA polls will increase, he said. — HNS

Govt weak: Bijukchhe

NARAYANGARH: Chairman of Nepal Workers’ and Peasant Party (NWPP), Narayanman Bijukchhe, on Friday said that the present government is the weakest one in the history of Nepal. Speaking at an interaction organised by the NWPP affiliated Nepal Revolutionary Students’ Association in Narayangarh, he said: “The present government has proved to be weakest one after the Sugauli Treaty.” — HNS

NSU poll plans

Kathmandu: Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) on Friday announced its publicity campaign for the Constituent Assembly polls. At a press meet, Rajendra Karki, general secretary of the NSU, said that the campaign is divided into two parts: voters’ awareness campaign and congress’s publicity campaign. — HNS

Rs 299m Indian aid

KATHMANDU: India has extended financial assistance worth Rs 299 million to the Tulsi Mehar Trust for construction of women hostel. The agreement to this effect has been signed between Counsellor of the Indian Embassy, Mahendra Lal Shrestha and LDO and Chairman of Trust, Bhadra Kumari Ghale. — RSS
