70-yr-old crushed

BARA: Seventy-year-old Shobhimaya Majhi of Neejgarh VDC-7 was fatally crushed underneath the tractor that she was riding when it turned turtle on Thursday near Bekma Bridge along Mahendra Highway in Neejgarh VDC-8 of Bara. The mishap occurred at about 5.30 am and Shobhimaya died on the spot. Co-travellers Kulbahadur Majhi and Mira Majhi were injured in the mishap, while the tractor driver managed to flee. — HNS

Bomb near FNJ office

BIRATNAGAR: A socket bomb was found near the office of the Morang chapter of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists’ on Wednesday. GFP Ranabir Army was written on the bottom of the leaflet in which the socket bomb was wrapped. The leaflet contained text denouncing both the Maoists and the parties. — HNS

Jackal terror

BARDIBAS: Jackals have been terrifying locals of Sahasaula and Ramgopalpur VDCs of Mahottari district since July-end. As of Wednesday, the beasts have bitten seven people, the Jaleshwor-based Mahottari district hospital said, adding that three of the people have returned home after treatment. — RSS

Blasts in Sunsari

ITAHARI: Two powerful bombs went off in Sunsari’s Duhabi and Ramgunj Belgachhiya VDCs on Thursday morning. A socket bomb exploded near Ram Nath Rauniyar’s house in Duhabi at 8 am, while another blast occurred at a bazaar in Ramgunj Belgachhiya at 10 am, police said. There was no casualty in the explosions. The Madhesi Tigers has claimed responsibility for the blasts. — HNS

Girl killed in mishap

NAWALPARASI: An eight-year-old girl died after she was hit by a jeep at Kawasoti of Nawalparasi on Thursday. According to the area police office, Khum Kumari Sherstha of Kawasoti-5 died on the spot after she was hit by the jeep heading for Butwal from Narayangarh. After the incident, the locals disrupted traffic at Kawasoti along the Mahendra Highway from 1:00 pm. Traffic resumed after an agreement was reached to compensate the victim’s family. — HNS
