Doc bags int’l award

Dharan: A Nepali psychiatrist has won an international award for his research on ‘Mental health during conflict.’ A meeting of Asian psychiatrists that concluded in Goa in India on August 5 awarded Dr Dhana Ratna Shakya of the BP Koirala Institute for Health Sciences for his charts. Dr Shakya had exhibited two charts — effects of conflict on mental patients and psychiatric emergencies in a tertiary care hospital. Over 20 charts were exhibited in the contest taken part by 200 psychiatrists, Dr Shakya said. — HNS

Garbage collection

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City begun collecting garbage dumped at various parts of the city from Tuesday afternoon. The private organisations have, however, halted collecting garbage and are continuing with their protest programme in front of the KMC office at Bagdurbar. Macha Babu Malakar, president of the Nepal Swotantra Safai Majdoor Union, said they colle-cted 22 trucks of garbage from New-road, Thamel and Putalisadak. — HNS

NSU cadres injured

DANG: ANNISU-R cadres beat up NSU Dang unit president Dipak Pandey and member of the Mahendra Multiple Campus, Free Students’ Union, Pawan Yadav and NSU-D Area No 2 secretary Kamal Kishore Ghimere, on Tuesday. To protest the beating, the NSU has announced shut down of all educational institutions in Ghorahi on Wednesday. — HNS

JTMM-G cadres held

BARA: Police arrested four cadres of the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha-Goit (JTMM-G) on Tuesday. Shyamlal Yadav, Harendra Yadav, Bijaya Yadav and Tinaki Yadav of Khopawa-1 were held with a homemade gun, Bara SP Shyam Bahadur Khatri said. — HNS
