4 cops hurt in mishap

RAJBIRAJ: Four police personnel were injured when a police van (Ba 1 Jha 6441) of the Saptari District Police Office met with an accident near Maleth of Rajbiraj-5 on Sunday morning. Constables Durga Danuwar, Kailash Limbu and Tej Bahadur Ghimire and driver Anil Shrestha were injured in the incident. They are being treated at Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital in Rajbiraj. The accident occurred due to some problem in the steering wheel of the van, police said. — HNS

Man attacks wife

RAUTAHAT: Maila Biswokarma, 71, of Paurai village development committee-8 was arrested on the charge of attacking his wife Nanda Maya with a khukuri on Sunday. Maila attacked his wife saying that she did not feed the pigs, locals said. The attack has left a deep cut on Nanda Maya’s neck and is undergoing treatment at the Narayani Sub-regional hospital, police said. The couple has eight children and 17 grandchildren. Maila has been arrested, inspector Nareshraj Subedi said. — HNS

JTMM-J men arrested

BARA: The Bara District Police Office arrested two activists of the Jwala Singh-led Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM-J) from Kalaiya-5 on Saturday. Bijay Ram Chamar, 19, of Maniyari-3 in Parsa district and Gopichan Patel, 19, of Lipani-8 were arrested along with a motorcycle (Ba 23 Pa 3796), a pistol and some bullets, police said. — HNS

Man hurt in explosion

BIRGUNJ: A person was injured when a socket bomb hurled by an unknown group exploded at Ganesh Lodge near Naya Bus Park in Birgunj Sub-metropolis-10 on Sunday evening. Bikram Mandal, an employee of the hotel, sustained injuries on his head. He is undergoing treatment in the Narayani hospital, said DSP Sri Prasad Prasai. Another bomb exploded at Bhanu Chowk at 10:20 pm on Sunday when two persons on a motorcycle hurled it, police said. — HNS

2 killed in landslide

TANAHUN: Two persons were killed and five others injured when a house at Chaurpakha in Byas-11 collapsed on Saturday night due to a landslide triggered by rainfall since the past two days. Anjana, 6, the daughter of Uday Bahadur BK and Uday’s brother-in-law Sujan BK, 15, were killed in the incident, the district police office (DPO) in Tanahun said. The injured include Uday Bahadur BK, his wife Sita BK, daughter Jeni BK and his brothers-in-law Sushil and Akash BK, police said. They are undergoing treatment in Damauli. — HNS

MAHENDRANAGAR: Activists of the Young Communist League (YCL) on Sunday captured four civilians on charges of involvement in a murder. Four locals of Sundarpur in Suda-5 of Kanchanpur — Mahesh Bhat, Karunakar Bista, Bhoj Bista and Shikhar Bahadur Bhat — were caught for allegedly murdering one Daan Bahadur Bhat, Maoist district deputy in-charge Anu said. — HNS
