Rs 28.02m Indian aid
KATHMANDU: The Embassy of India, the Pyuthan District Development Committee, and Mukti Secondary School, Vijaynagar, Pyuthan, on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of a new building and a girls’ hostel for the school. India is providing a grant assistance of Rs 28.02 million for the purpose. A statement issued here on Thursday said this was the first project in the education sector in Pyuthan being undertaken with the assistance of India. — HNS
Three scale Mt Everest
Kathmandu: A member of the International Everest Expedition 2007 and two members of Caudwell Xtreme Everest Summit Team II on Thursday scaled Mt Everest. A statement issued by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation on Thursday said a US citizen, Paul Frank Giorgio and a member of the International Everest Expedition 2007, scaled the Everest. Another statement said Sagaste Ayesa Santiago and member Valencia Martincz from Spain died in an avalanche in Mt Dhaulagiri on May 12. — HNS
Quake rescue team
TAPLEJUNG: Police and Red Cross rescue teams were dispatched on Thursday to the earthquake-hit areas. Taplejung CDO Himnath Dawadi said a rescue team has left Fungling. “We do not have details of damages because the affected areas lie in remote parts, he said. Police and Red Cross teams have been dispatched from Tellok, he said. — HNS
Boy drowns
ITAHARI: A one-and-a-half-year-old baby boy died after he drowned in the Sunsari river on Thursday. The boy has been identified as Samir, son of Chhutaru Miya, from Baklauri village development committee-1.— HNS
