Man drowns in Fewa

POKHARA: Krishna Bahadur Gurung, 46, of Pokhara-6, who fell from a boat in Phewa Lake on Thursday, is still missing. Gurung was bound for Pokhara from Anadu of Pumdibhumdi. Along with his wife, Gurung had gone to her parents’ house in Pumdibhumdi on Wednesday. He set off for home after leaving his wife at her parents’ house at around 5 am on Thursday. Gurung, who was rowing the boat himself, kept swimming in the lake for some time after he fell off the boat. He, however, drowned because he could not be rescued immediately, Phewa Boating Entrepreneurs’ Association secretary Shree Prasad Gurung said. Boatmen, locals and police are searching Gurung, police inspector Kedar Khanal said. — HNS

10 houses gutted

NAWALPARASI: Ten houses were gutted in a fire at Banjariya-4 Bigal village on Friday. According to the Nawalparasi district police office, the fire broke out due to an electrical short circuit. Fire engulfed all property inside the houses as there was no time to take them out, said police. Three fire brigades - two from Bhairahawa and one from Parasi - managed to douse the fire. An unidentified person, who was injured in the fire, has been admitted to Prithvi Chandra Hospital in Parasi. — HNS

Tiger cubs born

KATHMANDU: The National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) on Friday said a tiger gave birth to four cubs near the Chitwan National Park two weeks ago. A statement issued here by the NTNC said local field officers had found out on April 22 that the tiger had given birth to the cubs at Chitrasen Buffer Zone Community Forest of Bandarabhar jungle. — HNS
