Chinese’s misconduct

Kathmandu: The International Tiger Symposium that started here on Monday was disrupted for a brief period on Tuesday after a participant manhandled a reporter. A Chinese participant misbehaved with a journalist when the latter was trying to seek an opinion from the former on the controversial issue of tiger farming for commercial purposes. A group of Chinese experts are taking part in the symposium. They are proposing legalisation of tiger farming for commercial purposes and to lift a ban on trade of tiger parts. — HNS

Jaundice outbreak

Kavre: Over six dozen persons have been suffering from jaundice that has spread in Panchkhal and adjoining VDCs in Kavre for a week now, assistant health worker at primary health centre at Panchkhal, Ujjwal Adhikari, said. People from Lamidanda, Tamaghat , Baluwa, Hokse, Anekot and Jaisithok VDCs are suffering from the illness, Adhikari added. Meanwhile, District Public Health Office (DPHO), Kavre, today sent a team of health workers to the disease-hit areas. — HNS

Trader released

RAJBIRAJ: Industrialist Manoj Kabara of Rajbiraj-1 who was abducted by an unidentified group of people on April 12 was released on Tuesday, a relative of Kabara said. Kabara is the proprietor of the Shambhunath Rice Mill at Kathauna in Saptari. Civil Security Pressure Group, demanding security and release of Kabara, closed Rajbiraj bazaar on Tuesday, coordinator of the group, Nirmal Kumar Sancheti, said. Local entrepreneurs also staged a demonstration on Tuesday. — HNS

Passengers looted

SIRAHA: A group of armed dacoits on Tuesday morning looted a night passenger bus on the Kasaha road section of Mahendra Highway in Siraha district. The bus as bound for Pashupatinagar from Kathmandu when the dacoits made away with Rs 150,000 in cash, a computer hard disk and other valuables, police said. — HNS

Two killed in mishap

NAWALPARASI: Two persons were killed in a motorbike accident at Ramnagar, Nawalparasi, on Monday night. Chandreshwor Chaudhari, 27 and Subas Chaudhari, 22 of Parsahawa of Ramnagar-3 died on the spot when the motorbike they were riding on hit a bridge over a river. — HNS

Police arrest three

HETAUDA: Police on Tuesday took under control three of the four persons whom the Maoists released on Monday. The three, Nir Shanker Syangtan, 21 and Ananda Syangtan and Jay Bahadur Ghising, 62 had been serving terms in the District Jail in Harnamadi, for different criminal offences, before the Maoists and took them under their control. Inspector at the Makawanpur district police office, Ramthan Ghimire, said the three were taken into custody from the Maoist detention centre. — HNS

NA vehicle knocks one

LALITPUR: A Nepal Army vehicle on Tuesday morning knocked down to death Bhim Bahadur Shrestha, 63, at Satdobato, Lalitpur, police said. According to the Metropolitan Police Traffic Division (MPTD), Ramshahpath, the army vehicle with plate number Ba 1 Ja 6977, rammed onto Shrestha, a resident of Mahalaxmi, Lalitpur, at around 5 am on Tuesday. He died at around 5:30 am in Patan Hospital. The police has seized the vehicle, while the military police took away the driver for investigation. — HNS

GAIGHAT: Mobile phone services — post-paid as well as pre-paid — have been disrupted in Gaighat area of the Udaypur district since Monday evening owing to some technical problem, the Nepal Telecom, Udaypur Office, said. — HNS
