JTMM to raise Rs 30 m

ITAHARI: The Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (Jwala Singh) group on Thursday said its party headquarters has ordered it to collect a fund of Rs 30 million within a month from Sunsari district. The Morcha’s Sunsari district in-charge, Sanket, in a press statement , said the fund would be spent to establish a TV channel, FM radio station, publish newspapers and buy other necessary goods. — HNS

Ex-CJ’s call

KATHMANDU: Former Chief Justice Kedar Nath Upadhayay said on Thursday, “There is an urgent need to appoint visionary judges who can work with the need of time and make the judiciary independent and competent. This only can control irregularities and corruption.” He said this while delivering a speech on the Nepali Judiciary: Today’s Concern, jointly organised by Constitutional Lawyers Forum and Pro Public. He also said, “Unnecessary controversy against judges will not make the judiciary independent.” He said the mechanism to impeach Supreme Court Justice is ineffective. — HNS

Disease identified

DADELDHURA: Health workers have identified the disease, spread in various places of Dadeldhura for the past one week, as pyrex. The District Public Health Office, Dadeldhura, having the symptoms of headache, swelling and pain in the limbs and muscle, blocking of ear and nose and fever, is pyrex. Two persons had died while 110 others suffered from the disease in places, including Kailpalmandau and Masthamandau. A team led by Dr Bidyanidhi Poudel has been deployed to the disease-stricken areas, the DPHO said. — RSS

Man dies of rabies

DHADING: Jeet Bahadur Lama, 48, a resident of Dhuwakot-6, who was bitten by a mad dog, a month ago, died on Wednesday, while being rushed to Kathmandu for treatment. Lama died for lack of timely treatment of rabies he got infected from the dog-bite. — RSS
