Plea against judges
KATHMANDU: Demanding that three justices of the Supreme Court, Kedar Prasad Giri, Ram Nagina Singh and Sharada Prasad Pundit, be impeached, a petition was filed at the Legislature-Parliament on Friday. Petitioner Dr Hirakaji Manandhar, who is a senior engineer at the Nepal Agriculture and Research Council, accused the judges of not ordering the government to promote him even after 24 years of government service. Seeking promotion, he had moved the apex court. He claimed that the justices did not understand his case and issued a verdict against him. — HNS
Two soldiers hurt
CHARIKOT: Two soldiers — Rabindra Chaudhari and Surendra Bam — of the Khardhunga-based Maddati Company of the Nepal Army’s Sher Battalion were injured when lightning struck them on Sunday. Chaudhari and Bam were were taken to the Gauri Shankar General Hospital. They were referred to Chauni-based Birendra Hospital, police said. — HNS
House panel meeting
KATHMANDU: A committee formed to formulate regulations of the legislature-parliament said at its meeting on Monday that it will finalise the document by Tuesday. The issues yet to be settled include whether or not to keep the provision of an opposition leader, special rights of MPs and whether or not to introduce a provision to bring no-confidence motion against the PM. — HNS
Pasang’s stand
Dang: Deputy commander of the Maoist PLA, Nanda Kishor Pun (Pasang), said on Monday there will be no problem in arms lock-up and verification of the Maoists’ fifth, sixth and seventh divisions. He made this remark after reaching the Dahaban camp. He was accompanied by General Eric Wilhemson of the UN. — HNS
PLA verification on
KAILALI: Verification process of the seventh division of the Maoists’ PLAs in Kailali district is going on. Until Monday, 2000 PLAs in the main cantonment site in Talband have been verified. The task of verifying the Maoist PLAs in Bahubiryodhda Brigade in Kailali’s Sahajpur has also begun from Monday. — HNS
Malaria epidemic
NEPALGUNJ: Malaria has spread in villages across the Rapti river in Banke district. Altogether four persons in villages including Gangapur, Holiya and Phattepur have been diagnosed with malaria of strong strain while 20 others have been diagnosed with less stronger strain, the Banke district health office said. A team of four health workers has been dispatched to the disease-hit areas. — RSS
Motorcycles burnt
SIRAHA: A group of agitators set ablaze three motorcycles at Hospital Chowk of Lahan Municipality-3 on Sunday night, for violating bandh in the area. The motorcycles belonged to Sanokaji Prajapati of Kathmandu, Hira Bahadur Ale of Pamuwa of Sindhuli district and an unidentified person. Meanwhile, armed police beat up Chakar Shaha, 30, of Lahan for cutting trees in front of Lahan Hospital on Sunday. Shaha who is undergoing treatment in a nursing home. — RSS
