Security for Chilime

NUWAKOT: The Rasuwa District Administration has beefed up security at the Chilime Hydro Power Project (CHPP). Power production at CHPP came to a halt since Tuesday after the Chilime Public Concerned Consumers’ Committee (CPCCC) along with the Maoists padlocked the black box of the hydel project to demand free electricity for locals. Security has been provided for the entire CHPP from the dam till the power house, Rasuwa acting chief district officer Bharat Prasad Luitel said. “It is the administration’s duty to provide security to the project structure. Security forces have been deployed at the dam, black box and powerhouse of the project. The project remained closed today too,” he said. — HNS

KATHMANDU: A five-member delegation led by the chief of the international cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Surendra Arora, arrived in Kathmandu on a four-day visit on Wednesday. It met CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and leaders of Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi) and discussed political developments. The team is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Thursday. — HNS

NEA work halted

ILAM: CPN-Maoist cadres on Wednesday barred an employee of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), who went to the village after a gap of two years for reading consumers’ metres. The Maoist cadres snatched the bill book from the NEA staff Min Kumar Parajuli who had reached Barbote on Tuesday. — HNS

One killed, five hurt

POKHARA/SINDHUPALCHOWK: One person was killed and four were injured when a tractor met with an accident at Dobilla of Hemja-9 on Wednesday. Police identified the dead as the driver of the tractor, Satha Mahato, of Chitwan. Meanwhile, Maoist cadre Bishal Danuwar was critically injured when a bomb he was carrying went off at Tipani in Sindhupalchowk district on Wednesday. — HNS
