Four die of suffocation
KATHMANDU: Four members of a family, including three minors, died of suffocation in Dhapashi VDC-1 on Wednesday night, police said. The deceased have been identified as Shanti Bhujel, 35, her nine-year-old son Aalu Bhujel and Saru Bhujel, 4, and Bunu Bhujel, 5. They were found dead at around 8 pm on Wednesday in their rented room in the house belonging to Chaitya Raj Shrestha, police said adding that investigation has been launched. — HNS
Land feud: One killed
Bara: Bramha Narayan Shah of Prashurampur-3 in Bara, who was injured in a scuffle over land on Wednesday, succumbed to injuries on Thursday. Shah, who was undergoing treatment in Bir Hospital (Kat-hmandu) died at 2:00 am, police said. Shah quarrelled with Paras Lal Yadav over the ownership of land. — HNS
Medicines donated
KATHMANDU: Bangladeshi ambassador to Nepal, Imtiaz Ahmed, handed over medicines worth Rs 25,000 to Milapji Kothari, the president of Balaji Paropakar Samiti, Kathmandu, at a function here on Thursday. Pokhara: Maoists on Wednesday freed a man from the clutches of kidnappers. Unidentified persons had abducted Shankar Lama, 31, of Mankachaur VDC of Kavre, from Kathmandu last Friday. — HNS

MAHENDRANAR: A man allegedly axed to death his younger brother over a household dispute on Wednesday. Laxman Singh Negi was killed by his brother Chand Singh at Pipaladi, Kanchanpur. — RSS

JTMM men abduct 2
RAJBIRAJ: Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha cadres on Wednesday abducted two persons from Nargho of Saptari. The JTMM faction, led by Jwala Singh, abducted Prayag Raj Pokhrel and Nirmal Pokhrel, who were heading for their paddy fields, said district police office. Morcha cadre Kailash informed over the phone that they have abducted the duo who were on a motorbike, said Prayang Raj’s wife Pushpa. “They are under our control. We need some assistance from you,” Pushpa quoted Kailash as saying. — HNS

HETAUDA: Vice-president of the Nepali Congress, Sushil Koirala, has stressed the need for formulation of policies and programmes for economic empowerment of the deprived people. Maoists bar NEA men
SIRAHA: Maoists barred some employees of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) from entering Brahmapur village in Siraha. The Maoists’ team led by Area No 2 secretary Ganga Ram Mahato prevented NEA employees from entering the village on Tuesday night. The Maoists abused NEA men and warned them not to enter the village without permission from their people’s government, said NEA employee Mahenu Yadav. The Maoists forced the release of four persons, who were arrested on the charge of pilfering electricity for a long time, police saod. — RSS
6 teachers suspended
BANKE: The Bhanu lower secondary school at Udharpur in Banke district has suspended six teachers after they asked for their salaries. Six teachers out of 10, who have not got their salaries for the last six months, were suspended on Wednesday. Earlier, the teachers had staged a two-day pen-down strike. — RSS
