Menon’s visit

KATHMANDU: Foreign Secretary of India, Shiv Shankar Menon, is scheduled to visit Nepal from November 29 to December 1 at the invitation of Bhagirath Basnet, the Acting Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Menon will call on PM Girija Prasad Koirala, Deputy PM and Minister for Foreign Affairs KP Sharma Oli, Deputy PM and Health Minister Amik Sherchan, Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat and Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula. He will also meet some political leaders. — HNS

FNJ warns Maoists

CHITWAN: The Chitwan chapter of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) in a statement on Sunday warned of taking action against the Maoists. The statement signed by Chitwan president of the FNJ, Janak Aryal, said that Maoist area no 3 commissar Sonam barred three FNJ members from inspecting the Maoist army camp and also told them not to take photographs there. — HNS

Panel stops work

KATHMANDU: The Ceasefire Code of Conduct National Monitoring Committee has officially stopped working following the signing of the peace agreement between the government and the Maoists. The panel members felt that the committee did not have a role to play in the changed scenario, the committee said in a statement issued on Sunday. Referring to

the three reports it published during its term, the committee has expressed the confidence that the complaints and information would be dealt with. — RSS

Maoists bully students

DHARAN: The Maoists’ People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers on Sunday misbehaved with representatives of several student organisations who tried to know why ANNISU-R has padlocked a school in Dharan for the last four days. An ANNISU-R group, including PLA soldiers, bullied local leaders of the ANNFSU who reached Chandra Sanskrit Secondary School at Dharan-16. ANNISU-R, alleging that the headmaster of the school Shishambar Jha is involved in financial irregularities, has barred him from entering the school. — HNS
