Vehicles vandalised

PANAUTI: Irate crowd on Monday vandalised some 40 vehicles at Nalinchowk along the Bhaktapur section of Araniko Highway. The crowd went on the rampage after a passenger bus headed for Kathmandu knocked dead Bhai Kaji Karki, a resident of Bagdol, Mahendra Jyoti VDC, Kavrepalanchowk. A passenger bus was completely destroyed after the crowd torched it at around 6 pm. Traffic on the highway resumed after two hours later. — RSS

SC orders probe

KATHMANDU: Supreme Court on Monday directed the government to form a committee to study the exploitation of women working in cabin and dance restaurants and massage parlours. The SC bench comprising Justices Khilraj Regmi and Sarada Prasad Pandit directed the government to submit the report to the apex court within three months after the formation of a committee coordinated by the secretary at the Ministry of Women Children and Social Welfare to study problems faced by women working in those places. The SC has directed such a committee to include representatives from ministries concerned and Valley Crime Investigation Department of Police. — HNS

Lumbini Study Centre

RUPANDEHI: Tribhuvan University Research Department has established Lumbini Study and Resource Centre (LSRC) in Butwal Multiple Campus. The resource centre which will provide much information about historical, religious and cultural importance of Lumbini, was opened to the public on Monday, acting campus chief Lila Bahadur KC said. LSRC was established with a view to help researchers wishing to do research on the historical sites of Lumbini.— HNS
