Traffic disrupted
Janakpur: Janakpur Zonal Bus Entrepreneurs’ Association and Free Workers’ Union, Janakpur, on Thursday blocked traffic at East West Highway. On Wednesday they had halted vehicular movement inside Janakpur zone to protest against beating up of a bus conductor. SP of District Police Office, Dhanusha, Bigyan Raj Sharma said efforts to resolve the problem were on. — HNS
Security men ‘held’
NAWALPARASI: Locals of Kawasoti in Nawalparasi on Wednesday captured police constable Tulsi Chaudhari of Area Police Office, Kawasoti and soldier Karna Bahadur Tamang of Durga Bhanjyang Company of the Nepali Army at Bajhang, accusing them of being involved in incidents of robbery. The locals shaved the heads of the captured duo and took them around Kawasoti Bazaar on Thursday. They closed down the Bazaar and burnt down the post of the district traffic police office. — HNS
Majors summoned
KATHMANDU: The Rayamajhi panel on Thursday summoned 19 security officials for interrogation on charges of suppressing Jana Andolan-II. Those issued summons include Nepal Army majors Sharad Dhakal, Sagar Bahadur Thapa, Bishnu Agrahari, Roshan Karki and Suresh Kafle. The panel has asked them to present themselves for interrogation on August 20 and 21. — HNS
NC veep discharged
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Vice President Sushil Koirala was discharged from the Memorial Cancer Center, New York, on Wednesday after undergoing surgery of tongue and throat. His condition is reported to be normal, Ramesh Sharma, an associate of Koirala, said on Thursday. — RSS
Hunger strike in jail
RAJBIRAJ: The Rajbiraj jail inmates on Thursday started fast-unto-death demanding general amnesty. The jail inmates, led by Anil Jha, launched protests demanding release of those jail inmates who have already served 50 per cent of their prison term, reforms in prison management and guarantee of human rights of the inmates. — HNS
