KATHMANDU, JULY 2
A passenger bus carrying an estimated 14 people plunged into the Karnali River in Dailekh on Thursday, leaving one person dead, police said.
The bus, bearing registration number Ka Pra 02-00 Kha 1055, was travelling from Surkhet to Kalikot when it veered off the Karnali Highway at Sangetada in Chamunda Bindrasaini Municipality-7 and fell around 400 metres into the river.
District Police Office, Dailekh, said the body of an unidentified man has been recovered from the accident site.
Superintendent of Police Shravan Kumar Bik said preliminary information suggests that about 14 people were on board the vehicle when the accident occurred. The exact cause of the crash has yet to be determined.
A team of 35 police personnel has been deployed to the site to carry out rescue and search operations. Further details, including the number of casualties and injured, are awaited.
