PANCHTHAR: An elderly woman was killed and eight others injured in a jeep-tractor collision along the Mechi Highway in Panchthar district today morning.

The deceased has been identified as Lila Maya Chemjong (58) of Phalgunanda Rural Municipality-2 of the district.

The incident occurred when a jeep (Me 1 Ja 2793), en route from Birtamod of Jhapa to Phidim, collided head-on with a tractor (Me 1 Ta 3553), en route from Phidim to Ranke, and both the vehicles plunged 10 metres below the road at Tinpangre of Phalgunanda-3 in Panchthar, according to police.

The eight persons who have been injured are currently receiving treatment at local Ilam Hospital, said police.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
