SIRAHA, MARCH 15

Police today arrested one person on the suspicion of his involvement in the bomb blast at the Land Revenue Office in Lahan, Siraha, yesterday.

The arrested has been identified as Balram Mandal, 27, of Lahan Municipality.

According to police, Mandal was nabbed on the basis of a CCTV footage captured at the LRO. Mandal is a cadre of Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (Revolutionary).

The CCTV footage shows Mandal entering the LRO office before the improvised explosive device went off at the LRO.

Nine persons, including one LRO staffer were injured in the incident.

A critically injured Dinesh Bhandari was airlifted to Kathmandu in a Nepali Army chopper for treatment. The LRO's first class non-gazetted officer Shiv Kumar Yadav is being treated in Biratnagar, while others are undergoing treatment in Lahan.

Issuing a press statement, Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha had taken responsibility for the bomb blast.

Mandal has been kept in Lahan Area Police Office, and police have initiated an investigation, said SP Sudip Rajbhandari.

Following the incident, police have heightened security in and around government offices in the district.
