Doctor, dentist land in Nepal Police net for fake certificates

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police's Central Investigation Bureau has detained a medical doctor and a dentist practicing in the Kathmandu Valley on charge of using fake ISc certificates to get into medical schools.

Police identified the suspects as Farjana Sabiha (32) of Sarlahi and Kishor Gurung (40) of Sunsari.

Sabiha is affiliated with the Lagankhel-based Midat Hospital, while Gurung with the Maharajganj-based Shivapuri Dental Clinic. They were arrested from their respective workplaces on Sunday.

Police said the suspects were were presented before the Kathmandu District Court and remanded in custody for further investigation. The duo face forgery charges.

They used fake certificates that showed they passed ISc from the Bihar Intermediate Education Council, according to DSP Debesh Lohani of the CIB.

Sabiha's Nepal Medical Council registration number is 9636, and Gurung's 7479.

Police said the duo were arrested under the Operation Quack, launched by the CIB. Nepal Medical Council and Higher Secondary Education Board (now called National Examinations Board) have been supporting the CIB to look into suspected cases.
