SARLAHI, JULY 19

Police have arrested two individuals and seized more than four quintals of marijuana during a special anti-narcotics operation in Sarlahi.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Rabindranath Poudel raided the residence of Mahadev Raut in Sukchaina village of Kaudena Rural Municipality-1. Officers recovered 419.93 kilograms of marijuana stored in different rooms of the house.

Police arrested house owner Mahadev Raut and Rahul Raut, 26, in connection with the case. Both suspects have been taken into custody and legal proceedings initiated under the Narcotic Drugs Control Act.

During the operation, police also confiscated four digital weighing machines and a small balance scale believed to have been used for handling and distribution of the contraband.

DSP Bed Prasad Gautam, spokesperson for the District Police Office, said the suspects have been remanded into custody after court approval. An investigation is underway into charges related to the sale, distribution and transportation of narcotic substances.
