KATHMANDU, JANUARY 10

The Nepal Police has arrested 5,846 fugitives over the past five months (mid-July to mid-December) of the current fiscal year from across the country.

These individuals had been convicted of various offenses and were attempting to evade arrest. According to Nepal Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Bishwa Adhikari, a special campaign has been launched in the current fiscal year to apprehend these fugitives.

The highest number of fugitives are from Madhesh Province, with 1,590 arrests, followed by 1,253 from the Kathmandu Valley.

Additionally, 735 were arrested from Koshi Province, 265 from Bagmati, 506 from Gandaki, 1,035 from Lumbini, 169 from Karnali, and 235 from Sudurpaschim Province. The arrested have been presented before the courts to serve their sentences.

Adhikari stated that the total prison sentences to be served by these fugitives add up to 1,968 years, nine months, and eight days. Authorities are also seeking fines totaling Rs 430.54 million from them.
