KATHMANDU, JUNE 24

Faced with fertiliser shortages and rising costs, farmers in Palpa are turning to dhaincha, a green manure crop, to keep their soil fertile ahead of the paddy season.

Farmers in Mathagadhi and surrounding areas say the crop, grown before rice planting and later ploughed back into the soil, decomposes to supply essential nutrients, cutting their reliance on costly chemical inputs.

Agriculture experts say dhaincha boosts organic matter and nitrogen levels in the soil, making it a low-cost, sustainable option that is steadily gaining popularity among farming communities across the district.
