Palpa students hospitalised following punishment for not doing homework

PALPA: Manisha Thapa, a sixth grader at Bhairab Janata Secondary School, was hospitalised after she was allegedly tortured by her school teacher.

Thapa has been admitted to a local health facility

According to police, Thapa was punished for four hours for failing to complete her homework and then she had fallen sick.

Thapa's family members informed that she has been referred to a health facility in Kathmandu for further treatment.

Likewise, a 12-year-old Sushmita Ruchal, also a sixth grader at the same school, had to stay in the United Mission Hospital for four days after she was punished for not doing her homework.

"Ruchal lost her conscious following the punishment and was admitted to a hospital," said her family.

Ruchal's family has not filed a case yet. "The school administration in question has been pressing us not to file a case," her family said.

Meanwhile, a student leader Bishal Oli has accused the school of trying to protect the guilty teachers.

The District Education Office has called a meeting with chiefs of various students' unions, the school principal and the teacher in question to take action against the guilty.
