PANCHTHAR, OCTOBER 7

The district hospital was vandalised last night over the death of a girl during treatment.

The relatives of the girl have charged that the death was due to negligence of the hospital.

The irate mob resorted to the vandalism using rocks, bricks, iron rods and wooden logs.

The attack has affected the ICU ward, COVID-19 HDU and other structures.

The mob smashed window panes, doors and furniture.

Three-and-a-half-year-old Kristina Thamsuhang, daughter of Kamal Thamsuhang of Phalelung Rural Municipality, currently residing in Phidim Municipality, died yesterday morning while undergoing treatment.

Following the death, the hospital administration had sit for dialogue with the girl's relatives, but no agreement was reached till the evening, prompting the latter to resort to agitation. Though the police force tried to bring the situation under control with tear gas, the infuriated mob counter-attacked.

Owing to the current situation, the hospital administration decided to close all the services except emergency, until further decision.

Both parties sat for talks this morning and the victim's family agreed to receive the body. A committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
