Bagmati Province NCP-Unified Socialist parliamentary party leader Rajendra Pandey staked the claim for the post of chief minister on Wednesday. Leading a four-party alliance, Pandey staked the claim for the CM's post before Bagmati Governor Yadav Chandra Sharma.

Earlier in the day, Asta Laxmi Shakya had resigned from the post, paving the way for the formation of a new government. Governor Sharma had given 24 hours to stake the claim for the formation of the new government.

Pandey has submitted signatures of 59 lawmakers - 23 of the CPN- MC, NC's 22, NCP-Unified Socialist's 13, and one from the JSP.
