Panel asks govt to come clean on highway reports
Kathmandu, November 30:
A day after the Indian embassy here denied media reports that India is
planning to construct a highway near the Nepal-India border, the parliament’s Natural Resource Committee today directed the government to come clear on the facts about
the controversy.
The committee has asked the government to inform the committee about the issue.
“We have decided to take our own initiative to study it since the statement issued by the Indian embassy and the information that we have received through our source are contradictory ,” lawmaker Prakash Jwala told this daily today.
Jwala said information the committee received was from the people’s level and it wants the government to come clear on it.
Even as the Indian embassy here has denied the report as “absolutely wrong”, Jwala said that the information that the committee has received is also “not fictitious.” Also today, the committee asked Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan about the authenticity of the reports. “Minister Pradhan briefed us on India’s denial about the highway plan near the Nepal-India border,” Jwala added.
