RAJBIRAJ, FEBRUARY 2
Parents of students of a school in Dakneshwori Municipality, Saptari, have staged a sit-in on the premises of the school accusing the school management of not holding timely election to choose the management committee.
The guardians have vowed to continue their relay sit-in until the date for the election of the school management committee is declared.
Election to the school management committee of SLP Secondary School of Patthargada, Dakneshwori Municipality, was last held five years ago.
"As per the rule, the tenure of a school management committee is three years, but the school has not held the election even after two years after the tenure of the management committee expired. The same committee is stilling functioning, which is unfortunate," said local guardian Satya Narayan Thakur. "The school has ignored the past agreement to pick another committee through consensus or election, which is why we had to resort to this sit-in," Thakur added.
Thakur accused both the school administration and the municipality of being apathetic to their demand. Principal Debu Prasad Yadav, on his part, said the election of the school management committee had been delayed due to the COVID crisis.
"We have been closing time and again due to COVID. How on earth could we conduct the election?" said the principal.
