Parliament postponed for tomorrow, PM calls all-party meeting
KATHMANDU: Issuing a notice, the meeting of the Legislature-Parliament, scheduled for 1:00 pm today, has been postponed till tomorrow afternoon. Speaker Onsari Gharti has called the House at 2:oo pm tomorrow.
It has been learned that the House could not hold its meeting today after the main opposition party, CPN-UML, disagreed to discuss the Constitution amendment bill today.
The notice issued by the Parliament Secretariat said the House would not meet today due to "special reason", without specifying it.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has called an all-party meeting at 3:00 pm today, a day after announcing the date for elections in local bodies.
The meeting would be held at the Parliament building in New Baneshwar.
The UML had been demanding the announcement of local polls while the United Democratic Madhesi Front stressed on an amendment to the Constitution prior it.
In response to the poll date announcement, the UFMF decided to launch a fresh agitation. A torch rally would be organised in the Tarai-Madhes region today while a general strike has been called tomorrow as part of the agitation.
Earlier, Prime Minister Dahal had told the UDMF leaders that the government was committed to the Constitution amendment as per the UDMF demand and the process for amendment would be advanced once the House meeting resumed .
