Parties asked to shun violence

KATHMANDU: Minister for Information and Communications, Shankar Pokharel, Saturday urged political parties to shun violence and coordinate among themselves in order to establish peace in the country.

“Even after the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Accord, peace has remained a far cry,” said the minister. He was of the opinion that the political transition should be used as an opportunity to responsibly conclude the peace process.

Addressing the eighth anniversary of Manchitra Sanchar Samuha, he took it as a good sign that more and more women had been opting for jobs in media sector in the recent times. The women journalists have a great role to play in leading the nation, he said.

Dan Bahadur Chaudhary, state minister for industry, said the press had struggled for the gains at hand and had safeguarded the society. Poshan KC, general secretary, Federation of Nepali Journalists, said the budget had ignored the concerns of mediapersons.
