Parties reneging on promise: ANNISU-R
Kavre, May 1:
Central member of the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R), Lalit Ghalan, today said that the seven parties are trying to break the 12-point agreement reached between the Maoists and them. He claimed that they went against the agreement, reinstating the House of Representatives.
Speaking at a programme in the Banepa-based Chaitanya Campus, Ghalan said: “The seven-party alliance’s call for election to a constituent assembly is just eyewash.”
“We announced a ceasefire. Why are the seven parties delaying in announcing truce,” he said, adding: “The seven parties have to announce the date for election to a constituent assembly immediately. They have to initiate talks with Maoists through the interim government, after announcing ceasefire and the date for election to constituent assembly.
Addressing the programme, ANNISU-R Kavre-Sindhuli chairman DM Lama said: “The seven-party alliance has to follow the 12-point agreement. If not, we will take up arms again.”
The programme was organised in memory of the 21st day of late student leader Mitra Mani, who was killed by students affiliated to the NSU in Rampur Campus, Chitwan.
Meanwhile, Maoists today welcomed the decision of the House of Representatives (HoR) to go for a Constituent Assembly and lauded the decisive role played by civil society in the peoples’ movement.
Addressing an open assembly organised by the ANNFSU-R in Itahari, Maoists’ central member Dinesh Sharma said the Constituent Assembly proposal passed by the HoR was a welcome move.
He said the Maoists would withdraw their ceasefire if the seven political parties do not go for a democratic republic through an unconditional Constituent Assembly. He said the Maoists were ready to convert the Jana Mukti Sena into a National Army.
Also today, various Maoist groups — the Kirat Mukti Morcha, All Nepal Teachers’ Union-Revolutionary, Dalit Mukti Morcha, All Nepal Women’s Union-Revolutionary — that arrived in Manthali organised a mass meet at Devkota Chowk.
