Parties to launch anti-poll drive

Pokhara, October 28:

CPN-UML central member Bharat Mohan Adhikari said that anti-election campaign will be launched from November 25 onwards.

Inaugurating a two-day workshop entitled Role of Intellectuals in solution of present crisis, organised by the CPN-UML Gandaki Committee today, Adhikari said the seven party alliance has already agreed on the strategy for campaigning against the municipal elections.

With all the international support at our side, the seven party alliance will surely succeed in its cause, he said, citing US announcement of not providing any financial aid to the present government.

He said the political parties, who have time and again been tricked by King, will not compromise with King at any cost.

Democracy and monarchy can never go hand in hand, he said, stressing the fact that people want democracy and that the parties have decided to go for a democratic republic.

“Now the autocratic monarchy and people will stand in two different fora,” Adhikari said.

Stressing on the importance of strengthening the relation between the seven agitating parties, Adhikari called on the civil society, journalists, lawyers, human right activists and other organisations to unite to add fuel to the ongoing movement.

Adhikari also said the Maoists too have moved in direction of peaceful movement by leaving behind the violence.

Stating that media ordinance has been brought to stifle the voices of democracy, people and journalists, he said the parties have launched the movement against the ordinance as well.

Another CPN-UML central leader Tri Lochan Dhakal also said that because the government could not ban political parties, it attacked the media.
