BAJURA, MAY 3

Election code of conduct has been violated at the main entrance of the Office of Chief Election Officer at Martadi in Bajura.

Loktrantrik Chowk in Martadi has been decorated with flags, election symbols and election materials of different political parties, but the Office of Chief Election Officer has remained silent on the issue. Even representatives of Election Code of Conduct Monitoring Committee are keeping mum.

CPN-UML and Nepali Congress have kept flags and election symbols on the rooftops and utility poles.

Supporters, cadres and candidates of the parties frequently move from the chowk during election campaigns, violating the code of con-duct, but the authorities concerned are quiet.

The parties had shown their commitment to abide by the election code of conduct but they are now flouting it openly. The provision is that no political party can put up party flags, and paste election symbols, among other publicity materials, at public places, buildings, parks and utility poles. But the buildings are decorated with different party flags in most of the public places.

Similarly, the parties and candidates can run election publicity campaign between 8:00am and 7:00pm. But they are doing so even till late night and chanting slogans at the district headquarters and chowks. A civil society leader Pradip Raj Joshi said that even children were being used for election publicity in the villages.
