Parties weakening democracy: Dhakal

Pokhara, March 20:

Minster of Local Development, Tanka Dhakal, has accused the seven political parties of weakening democracy in the country.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the 14th district council of the Kaski DDC today, he accused the parties of calling foreign countries for help in reviving the dissolved House.

“The seven parties reached an agreement with the Maoists in foreign land to strengthen the Maoists.” The accord will not benefit the Maoists, he said.

All parties should take part in the parliamentary polls to strengthen democracy, Dhakal said, calling on the parties to do politics keeping in mind the geopolitics of the country.

“As the parties lack popular support, the parties have been mobilising some members of the civil society and some civil servants in their agitation.”

Meanwhile, a report from Tanahun quoted Minister of State for Labour and Transport Management, Rabindra Khanal, as saying that expression of dissatisfaction is acceptable but not hooliganism. Khanal, who had gone to the city hall yesterday to attend the 14th district council meeting of Tanahu DDC, accused cadres of the seven parties of attacking him at the entrance of the hall.
