PCR report not needed for ABC trek as virus cases slow

POKHARA, JANUARY 21

Trekkers heading to Annapurna Base Camp through various routes to the camp do not require negative PCR reports.

Trekking routes were resumed on January 14 amid the infection risk after making it mandatory for trekkers to show PCR reports.

A meeting of the Chhomrong Tourism Entrepreneurs Committee on Tuesday decided in this regard amid decreasing infection rate and life returning to normal, said the committee’s Secretary Dilip Gurung. “Earlier we asked guests to carry PCR reports for entry and stay at hotels.

However, we removed the mandatory provision of carrying PCR reports as infection risk was decreasing and we found it to be a hassle.”

The committee, however, asked trekkers to follow a health protocol. Preparations were under way to resume hotels at and around the Machhapuchchhre and Annapurna Base camps within this week, he said.
