BAJURA, DECEMBER 28

Bajura was declared an open defecation free district some seven years ago. A fullsanitation campaign is under way in the district.

Local levels in addition to non-governmental organisations such as UNICEF and Red Cross are investing millions for maintaining cleanliness.

But despite all these efforts, people can be seen defecating in the open at many places in the district. Latrines were constructed at some places, but were closed for want of running water.

Bajura was announced an open defecation free district saying that 100 per cent toilets were constructed inside the district.

Civil society member Laxmiraj Padhyay said that many toilets were dysfunctional and some did not have running water.

Locals shared that then Chhatara VDC was declared open defecation free zone 10 years ago.

Surprisingly, many do not use toilets in the village.

Toilets in many schools have become useless. As a result, students defecate in the open.
