Ninety-eight persons, including eight women, were fine by the authorities for flouting the COVID-19 protocol, in Rautahat, today.

In view of the threat of coronavirus, Rautahat District Administration Office had urged the residents to say indoors and venture out only in case of urgency and to follow safety measures.

According to the DAO, 98 people moving about without wearing face masks faced action.

Police had been deployed in the streets of the district to check whether people complied with the COVID protocol amid the increasing fear of COV- ID spread. A total of Rs 9,800 was collected in fines from the rule violators.

"Similarly, 955 men and 320 women caught without face masks for the first time were detained for an hour and released after counselling," said DPO Spokesperson DSP Bharat Shrestha.

Police in the district have tightened security checking for the past few days in the face of increasing coronavirus cases here. For people entering Nepal from India, health check-up at the health desk set up in Mahadevpati is mandatory.

Given the risk, police have been organising a campaign urging people to save themselves and others from coronavirus by adopting all the health safety measures.
