People throng Saptari poll office to update voter list

Locals have thronged the District Election Office in Saptari to update their name for voter identity cards with photograph.

The election office had set a one-month time-frame from July 16 to August 16 this year for voters to register their names for the voters’ list for the upcoming local level elections in Province 2. As many as 1,629 voters

have registered their names for the list in the past 11 days.  Election Officer Mahesh Kumar Thakur said that of those registering their names for the voter list, 1,085 were males  and 544 were females.

Thakur said his office has been providing service to the public even on public holidays.

Most of the service seekers visiting the office said they did not exercise their voting rights earlier as they had not registered  their names.

As many as 331,462 voters, including 21 third gender voters are there in the nine municipalities and eight rural municipalities of the district.
