PhD holders form their own body
Kathmandu, February 4:
Prof Dr Suresh Raj Sharma, vice chancellor of Kathmandu University, today inaugurated the Nepal PhD Association (NPA), the first PhD association in Nepal, to promote the networking among PhD holders and international experts.
Speaking at the programme, Dr Sharma said PhD holders were experts in their own rights who could give solutions to problems facing the nation. He said a PhD could be received only after a lot of hard work and rigorous study on a particular subject.
Dr Sharma regretted that the power of slogans chanted on the streets were becoming more
powerful than logic and expertise.
He urged all to correct their own faults before pointing fingers at others and to use their creativity and wisdom in building the nation.
He suggested the association to set a standard for PhD holders and lobby for research assistance, fellowship and other support programmes for PhD candidates.
Prof Dr Madan Prasad Wagle said the association should make itself a purely academic and
apolitical organisation that could help in creating environment for high-quality researches from PhD students.
Similarly Dr Ganesh Raj Joshi, secretary at the National Information Commission, said the association should enhance research and development.
