PLA men stage demonstrations

Dang, September 18:

The Maoist People’s Liberation Army soldiers today staged a demonstration outside their camps immediately after the Maoist ministers tendered their resignation from their posts.

Soldiers of the PLA fifth division and its four sub-camps staged demonstrations and announced formation of the Dang District People’s Government.

PLA personnel at Dirgha Memorial Brigade at Sakram, fifth divisional headquarters at Dahaban, Jwar Memorial Brigade at Tila of Rolpa, Mangalsen Brigade at Uda of Rolpa staged demonstration with sticks and weapons in their hands. Speaking at a corner meet organised after the demonstration at Sakram, commander of Dirgha Memorial Brigade, Santosh said: “We will not launch an armed war; however, we will come out of the camps if our demands are ignored.”

“We are waiting for the party’s instructions to leave the camps and go to the people,” he said.Maoist Dang unit also organised a demonstration and announced formation of the District People’s Government with parliamentarian Indrajit Chaudhari as its chief and Ramji Chaudhari as deputy.

A report from Nawalparasi said PLA personnel of fourth division also staged a demonstration. Soldiers at divisional headquarters in Jhaltungdanda and sub-camps at Hattikhor, Jargaha and Sainamaina burnt the effigy of monarchy. Fourth Divisional commander Pratikshya said that his party quit the government because Nepali Congress obstructed establishment of a republic.

In Mahottari, PLA soldiers from second division of Rambrikshya Memorial Brigade at Khayermara staged a demonstration outside the camp today. Brigade commander Pradip addressed the gathering. Maoist Mahottari unit also staged a demonstration in Gaighat.

A report from Pokhara said Maoists staged a demonstration and rally there. Maoist central member Hitraj Pandey and Kaski in charge Karan addressed an assembly after the rally. Karan warned of announcing republic from the street.

A report from Nepalgunj said the Maoists staged a demonstration today.

A report from Chitwan said PLA personnel of PLA third division at Jutpani came out of the camp and staged a demonstration at Tandi.
