RAJBIRAJ, AUGUST 5

A complaint has been filed in Saptari accusing an elected local representative and her husband of citizenship fraud and seeking an investigation. The complaint filed yesterday with the district administration has accused Dakneshwori Municipality Deputy Mayor Mira Kumari Yadav and her husband Mahendra Yadav of possessing citizenship certificates of more than one country.

Chief District Officer Janardan Gautam admitted his office has received a complaint over an alleged citizenship fraud involving the deputy mayor of Dakneshwori Municipality and her spouse. "It's true that we've received a complaint; we've also started our investigation over the matter from today itself," he said. Name of the complainer who filed the complaint with evidence vouching for the duo in possession of the citizenship of both Nepal and India hasn't been revealed.

Copies of the complaint have also been sent to the Home Ministry, District Police Office and Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority. The complaint has invoked Citizenship Act 2006 and sought strongest action possible against the two, including removal of the deputy mayor from office. As learnt, the complaint has claimed that Mira and her husband are originally the residents of Supaul district of Bihar state of India. The complaint has also included evidence related to 'adhar cards' and voting card issued in India in the name of the two as evidence.

Deputy Mayor Mira Kumari Yadav, however, dismissed the allegation as baseless. "I am a resident of Dakneshwori and my parents' home is Hanumannagar," she said, the case against her was politically motivated. "All the evidence is fake," she claimed.
