KATHMANDU, JANUARY 14

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has directed Nepal Drugs Limited (NDL) to immediately commence the production of 20 generic medicines. He commended NDL's ongoing initiatives in medicine production.

The PM convened a meeting with NDL, including its Chairperson Yagya Neupane, at his office and instructed the government pharmaceutical company to promptly initiate production.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister urged NDL to approach its work in a new manner, acknowledging its past successes in medicine production while noting recent obstacles.

"While Nepal Drugs Limited has performed well in the past, there have been recent obstructions. I called this meeting with the belief that drug manufacturing tasks should proceed expeditiously in a new manner. Start the work, and I am prepared to offer whatever government support is required," he stated.

PM Dahal emphasized initiating production with 20 generic medicines, with a focus on improving both quality and quantity in the future.

He added, "This sector is also one of the potential avenues for making the country prosperous. We cannot accomplish everything at once. Please start the work, and I will hold further discussions with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Industry. Let's carry out work in this sector in a way that people will sense progress."

NDL Chairman Neupane reported that the production of 10 generic medicines is currently underway, and preparations are in progress for the immediate manufacturing of 20 medicines, according to the PM's Private Secretariat.

He highlighted challenges faced by NDL in executing its tasks effectively, citing outstanding liabilities from the past. Neupane expressed a commitment to making production systematic and regular by managing technical workforce, improving machine quality, and acquiring new machines.
