PM, NC delaying interim government, says Nepal

Bhairahawa, March 4:

CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal today said that the formation of interim government was being delayed due to Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and his party (Nepali Congress).

Talking to mediapersons at the Gautam Buddha Airport after arriving from Kathmandu following the party’s standing committee meeting, he said: “It is difficult to exactly say when the interim government will be formed.”

Referring to arms demonstrations in the mass meetings organised by the CPN-Maoist in different parts of the country, he said: “The latest activities of the Maoists are condemnable and it is the government’s duty to control such acts.” He, however, said that the ongoing peace process would not be affected by the Maoists’ weapons.

Nepal declined to comment whether CA polls were possible by mid-June. He is scheduled to inaugurate the party’s Rupandehi district convention tomorrow and is accompanied by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Pradeep Gyawali.

Meanwhile, talking to the journalists in Butwal today, Nepal asked the CPN-Maoist to soon make public its official stand on the gap between the Maoist’s PLA personnel and their weapons.

Nepal also said that he had asked PM Koirala to hold a meeting of eight parties to discuss issues like the formation of interim government and announcement of constituent assembly poll date. “I still insist to call a meeting of eight parties immediately,” he said.
