PN campus chief’s office locked over irregularities

Pokhara, August 14:

All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-R padlocked the campus chief’s office at Prithvi Narayan Campus (PN) here yesterday, accusing the committee formed to probe a September 21 clash between ANNISU-R and the UML-affiliated ANNFSU cadres of not coming out with a fact-based report.

The probe committee was formed under the coordination of joint associate of PN Campus Tika Ram Bastola. Representatives of student bodies and chairman of the Free Students’ Union (FSU) at the PN campus are members of the committee. The campus chief’s office was padlocked after efforts to draw the attention of the committee to publish a factual report went in vain, said ANNISU-R unit president in the PN campus Govinda KC.

KC accused the campus administration and FSU of illegally providing Rs 86,000 and Rs 45,000 to ANNFSU in the name of treatment of persons injured in the clash and canteen expenses. The office would be unlocked only after a process was initiated to punish those involved in the scam, ANNISU-R said.

KC said though the probe committee asked both the parties to refrain from provocative activities, ANNFSU, in its mouthpiece Yug Sandesh’s April 10 issue, had run a baseless report accusing the Maoists of involvement in the murder of 30-year-old Rishiram Subedi of Kaski’s Saimarang VDC. ANNISU-R’s central member Madan Ale, unit committee president Govinda KC and secretary Dinesh Poudel were hurt in the September 21 clash between cadres of the two student bodies.

ANNFSU’s central member Rashmi Acharya, Gandaki zonal president Iman Raj Poudel, Sushil Basnet and Nanda Rokaya were also injured. ANNFSU central member Rashmi Acharya said, “The row between the two student unions was settled amicably following an agreement.”
