Pokhara Appellate Court taking no longer than a year to settle cases

Pokhara, July 16

Pokhara Appellate Court has made a mark by settling cases within a year of their registration. Not a single case exceeding one year is pending at the court.

Court registrar Khadga Bahadur Shrestha said the court was working with the aim of making justice delivery fast, reliable and accessible to all.

A total of 975 cases — 938 registered in fiscal 2071/72 and 322 transferred from the year before — were resolved in the fiscal 2072/73.

According to Shrestha, 77 per cent cases were settled in the fiscal 2072/73 while the court had targeted to settle 75 per cases.

Chief Judge Dambar Bahadur Shahi at the appellate court said all six district courts under his court were also settling cases in accordance with the target. Of the 4,452 cases, 3,086 were settled at Kaski District Court.

Judge Nariswor Bhandari of Kaski District Court alone issued verdict on 1,085 cases in the fiscal 2072/73. Of 1,009 cases, 812 were settled by Tanahun District Court. Similarly, 605 cases out of total 715 cases were resolved by Gorkha Court, while 636 and 344 cases out of total 808 and 461 cases were settled by Syangja and Lamjung district courts, respectively. Out of nine, six cases were settled at Manang court.

Shahi said work was under way to make justice delivery more effective and accessible to the public. “Appellate Court has also managed to deliver free service to the financially weak.”
